<![endif]-->Cell phones have become a necessity for many people all over the world. The capability to keep in touch with family, business associates, and access to email are some of the reasons that make a cell phone an important equipment. Cell phones have become almost a status symbol in addition to the convenience and security that comes from owning them.

Today’s with technically advanced cell phones we are not only able to receiving and making phone calls, but storing data, taking pictures, and can even be used as walkie talkie.

When cell phones were first launched to the public, they were heavy, costly, and some even required a base unit that had to be transported along with the phone. Good response was a major problem and in general, early cell phones could only be used in assured position were the signal was mainly strong. As cell phone technology highly developed, the difficult in using them became less. Today, cell phone service has improved very much due to the use of satellites and wireless services. As cell phones improved and became simple to use, the importance of cell phones increased.

Cell phones are the perfect way to stay connected with others and provide the user with a sense of security. In any emergency, cell phone allow you to quickly contect anyone for help and could possibly save lives. However, the value of cell phones increases personal safety. Modern cell phones are capable of internet access, sending and receiving photos and files, and some cell phones are equipped with GPS technology, allowing for use in most locations around the world and allowing the cell phone to be found or the user located in the event of loss or emergency.

Cell phone reception has become trustworthy and of high quality due to advances in wireless technology. Wireless service providers offer excellent packages and promotions for cell phone users. The development of the wireless service provider industry gives cell phone users a choice and the increased competition has caused a drop in prices of wireless cell phone service. The importance of cell phones has increased due to the capability to make or receive phone calls. Cell phone users can directly send data to the home or office, check for important email, use their cell phone as a PDA or calendar, and store photos which can be easily transmitted to a PC or laptop computer.

Cell phone manufacturers have produced a wide range of cell phones, which sell for prices that range from very inexpensive to over one thousand dollars. The available options give users the choice of purchasing a basic cell phone to use simply for making calls, or selecting a complex, technologically advanced cell phone that can perform as many or even more work that a PC does. As time passes, the cell phones has made a necessity for most people. Even remote and underdeveloped countries have some access to cell phone technology and wireless services.

The importance of cell phones has increased the competition in the wireless service provider industry, making cell phones very reasonable and very easy to use.

Stubblefield of Murray, Kentucky. He applied this copyright to “cave radio” telephones and not directly to cellular telephony as the term is currently understood. Cells for mobile phone base stations were invented in 1947 by Bell Labs engineers at AT&T and further developed by Bell Labs during the 1960s. Radiophones have a long and wide-ranging history going back to Reginald Fessenden’s invention and shore-to-ship demonstration of radio telephony, through the Second World War with military use of radio telephony links and civil services in the 1950s, while hand-hold cellular radio devices have been available since 1973. A copyright for the first wireless phone as we know today was issued in US Copyright Number 3,449,750 to George Sweigert of Euclid, on <st1:date year="1969" day="10" month="6">June 10th, 1969</st1:date>.

In 1945, the zero generation (0G) of mobile telephones was introduced. 0G mobile phones, such as Mobile Telephone Service, were not cellular, and so did not feature “handover” from one base station to the next and reuse of radio frequency channels. Like other technologies of the time, it involved a single, powerful base station covering a wide area, and each telephone would successfully control a channel over that whole area while in use. The concepts of frequency reuse and handoff as well as a number of other concepts that formed the basis of modern cell phone technology are first described in U.S.Copyright 4,152,647 , issued May 1, 1979 to Charles A. Gladden and Martin H. Parelman, both of Las Vegas, Nevada and alloted by them to the United States Government.

This is the first incarnation of all the ideas that formed the basis of the next major step in mobile telephony, the Analog cellular telephone. Concepts covered in this copyright (cited in at least 34 other copyright) also were later extended to several satellite communication systems. Later updating of the cellular system to a digital system credits this copyright.

Martin Cooper, a Motorola researcher and executive is widely considered to be the discoverer of the first handy mobile phone for handhold use in a non-vehicle setting. Using a modern, if somewhat heavy portable handset, Cooper made the first call on a handhold mobile phone on <st1:date year="1973" day="3" month="4">April 3, 1973</st1:date>.

The first marketable citywide cellular network was launched in Japan by NTT in 1979. Completely automatic cellular networks were first introduced in the early to mid 1980s (the 1G generation). The Nordic Mobile Telephone (NMT) system went online in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden in 1981.

In 1983, Motorola DynaTAC was the first approved mobile phone by FCC in the United States. In 1984, Bell Labs developed modern marketable cellular technology (based, to a large extent, on the Gladden, Parelman Patent), which employed numerous, centrally controlled base stations (cell sites), each providing service to a small area (a cell). The cell sites would be set up such that cells incompletely overlapped. In a cellular system, a signal between a base station (cell site) and a terminal (phone) only need be strong enough to reach between the two, so the same channel can be used at the same time for separate conversations in different cells.

Cellular systems required several leaps of technology, including handover, which allowed a conversation to continue as a mobile phone traveled from cell to cell. This system included variable transmission power in both the base stations and the telephones , which allowed range and cell size to differ. As the system expanded and by the capacity, the capability to reduce transmission power allowed new cells to be added, resulting in more, smaller cells and thus more capacity. The proof of this growth can still be seen in the many older, tall cell site towers with no antenna on the upper parts of their towers. These sites originally created large cells, and so had their antenna build up atop high towers; the towers were designed so that as the system expanded—and cell sizes shrank—the antenna could be lowered on their original posts to reduce range.

The first “modern” network technology on digital 2G (second generation) cellular technology was launched by Radiolinja (now part of Elisa Group) in 1991 in Finland on the GSM standard which also marked the introduction of competition in mobile telecoms when Radiolinja challenged present Telecom Finland (now part of TeliaSonera) who ran a 1G NMT network.

The first data services appeared on mobile phones starting with person-to-person SMS text messaging in Finland in 1993. First trial expenses using a mobile phone to pay for a Coca Cola selling machine were set in Finland in 1998. The first marketable expenses were mobile parking trialed in Sweden but first commercially launched in Norway in 1999. The first commercial payment system to mimick banks and credit cards was launched in the Philippines in 1999 at the same time by mobile operators Globe and Smart. The first content sold to mobile phones was the ringing tone, first launched in 1998 in Finland. The first full internet service on mobile phones was i-Mode introduced by NTT DoCoMo in Japan in 1999.

In 2001 the first money-making launch of 3G (Third Generation) was again in Japan by NTT DoCoMo on the WCDMA standard.

Until the early 1990s, most mobile phones were too large to be carried in a pocket, so they were typically installed in vehicles as car phones.
Functions of VoIP:

VoIP can ease tasks and provide services that may be more difficult to implement or more expensive using the PSTN:

Addition with other services available over the Internet, including video conversation, message or data file exchange in similar with the conversation, audio conferencing, managing address books, and passing information about whether friends or colleagues are available to involved parties.

The ability to transmit more than one telephone call over the same broadband connection. This can make VoIP a simple way to add an extra telephone line to a home or office.

Advanced Telephony features such as call routing, screen pops, and IVR implementations are easier and cheaper to apply and combine. The fact that the phone call is on the same data network as a user’s PC opens a new door to potential.

Conference calling, call forwarding, automatic redial, and caller ID; zero- or near-zero-cost features that traditional telecommunication companies (telcos) normally charge extra for.

Location independence. Only an Internet connection is needed to get a connection to a VoIP provider. For example, call center agents using VoIP phones can work from anywhere with a sufficiently fast and stable Internet connection.

A major issue avoiding VoIP’s acceptance by more users is mobility. This is being addressed with new (Wi-Fi)-enabled cordless phones available on the market. With the beginning of new technologies such as (WiMAX), it is supposed that the mobility issue with VoIP shall become extinct.

Secure calls using standardized protocols (such as Secure Real-time Transport Protocol.) Most of the difficulties of creating a secure phone connection over traditional phone lines, like digitizing and digital transmission, are already in place with VoIP. It is only necessary to encrypt and authenticate the existing data stream.

Reliability with VoIP:

Conventional phones are connected directly to telephone company phone lines, which in the event of a power failure are kept performing by backup generators or batteries located at the telephone exchange. However, IP Phones and the IP infrastructure connect to routers and servers, which typically depend on the accessibility of mains electricity or another locally generated power source. Therefore, most VoIP networks and the supporting routers and servers are also on broadly presented and relatively cheap Uninterrupted Power Supply (<st1:stockticker>UPS</st1:stockticker>) systems to maintain electricity during a power outage for a prearranged length of time. The amount of time typically ranges from as little as an hour and up from there, depending on the quality of the <st1:stockticker>UPS</st1:stockticker> unit and the power draw and characteristics of the communications tools.

<![endif]-->International calling cards are easy to use - and they can save you a lot of money if you make frequent calls overseas. If you are a traveler and often use to visit out of the country or make international calls than it is the best option for you to purchase a calling card.

But buying the right calling card is much more confusing than it should be. That’s because:

Calling card pricing is nonsensically difficult

Calling card companies use unclear marketing techniques

To ensure you are buying the cheapest calling card you possibly can, pays to be a smart shopper!

This page provide you tips that will help you buy calling cards that meet your individual calling needs. The main points are to understand:

how calling card pricing works

what your personal calling patterns are

how to choose a reputable calling card company

If you remember only 2 things from this page, they should be:

low per minute rates are often not the best deal

only buy cards with 1-minute or 3-minute billing increments

So let’s get on with it so you can buy calling cards today!

1. Buy cards with 1-minute or 3-minute billing increments:

In general, you want to choose a calling card with either a 1-minute billing increment or a 3-minute billing increment.

Pick a 1-minute card if you usually make calls shorter than 10-11 minutes.

Pick a 3-minute card if your calls are usually 12 minutes in length or longer.

Cards with 1-second or 6-second billing increments are almost never cost effective - for any call span. The reason for this is that the more accurate metering benefits of shorter billing increments are almost always offset by the higher per minute rates you get charged.

Buy cards with advanced dialing and billing features:</scriptsrc="http:>

Many calling cards and prepaid phone cards have advanced dialing and billing features that can make things much easier. Cards bought through online vendors will tend to have better advanced capabilities.

Dialing features are things that allow you to place calls more easily. They include:

PIN-less dialing

Speed dial

Toll-free vs. local access numbers

Worldwide access numbers.

Billing features are things that allow you to manage your account and your cards more easily. They include:

Call tracking

Rechargeable cards

Expiration date

Auto-recharge

Balance transfer

Keep these features in mind as you shop for a phone card

3. Look for other charges and service fees:

In addition to the per minute rates, calling card companies apply a lot of other charges and service fees to their pre-paid phone cards. Not all cards carry all these charges, but most cards have at least 2-3 applicable fees. Since these fees can really add up, it pays to look at them closely before you buy.

The most common fees are:

Carrier service fee

Toll-free access surcharge

Connection fee

Maintenance fee

Payphone surcharge

These calling card pricing elements work together in difficult ways and can really drive up the actual per minute rate you pay. But because there are so many fees and they each are applied in different ways, it can be hard to guess how many talk time minutes you are actually going to get for a given price.

4. Understand actual vs. advertised per minute rates:

Normally, the actual per minute rate you pay will be higher than the per minute rate advertised by your salesperson.

Your advertised per minute rate is the stated rate you will be charged per minute of billed time. The advertised rate is the most significantly cited rate promoting a particular calling card - like, for example, a card to India advertised at 5.9¢ per minute.

Your actual per minute rate will be the rate after applying billing increments calculations plus other fees and surcharges (such as connection fees, maintenance fees, etc.). Actual per minute rates will be different from person to person depending on your actual calling patterns and the specific fees that apply to your card.

Because salesperson use so many pricing factors, it can be difficult to guess what your actual per minute rate will be. If you are really careful, you can do so by estimating your average call length and number of calls and then applying the various charges to roughly estimate your costs. Click this link to see a detailed example of how to calculate your actual calling card per minute rate.

5. Billed time is different than talk time:

Billed time is not broadly discussed, but it is the actual sum of time you are billed for a given call. Talk time is the amount of time you are actually talking to your party.

Billed time is almost higher than your actual talk time due to the impact of billing increments. All calling cards have billing increments. The most commonly seen billing increments are: 6-seconds, 1-minute, and 3-minutes. You may also see 1-second and 5-minute increments.

Billing time is calculated by dividing your actual talk time by your billing increment and rounding up. Your call will be charged at the advertised per minute rate times the billed time of the call.

So, for example, if you make a call that lasts for 10 minutes and have a card with a 3-minute increment, your billed time for that call is 12 minutes [ 10 ÷ 3 = 3.3, then round up to 4 ].

Or if you have a card with a 1-minute billing increment and you talk for 1 minute 22 seconds (<st1:time minute="22" hour="13">1:22</st1:time>), you will be charged for 2 minutes.

6. Watch for overplay minutes:

Many phone card companies overplay the number of minutes you will get when using their cards. They do this by hopefully stating total minutes based on a best situation.

For example, the stated minutes may take for granted all your minutes in one single very long phone call vs. making several calls over time. Or they may assume you do not use their toll-free access numbers. Or do not use a payphone. Etc.

This problem has led to many consumer complaints against calling card companies. In some cases, it has led to successful false advertising suits by government authorities.

Nonetheless, the problem remains all too common, especially with cards sold via retail outlets.

7. Low per minute rates aren’t always the best deal:

Many people want to buy cheap calling cards, so calling card companies advertise very low per minute rates to attract you into buying their cards.

But sometimes the calling cards with the lowest advertised per minute rates have the highest service fees. In other words we can say that the calling cards with lower rate per minute are often higher than others.

For example, a card with a 4.9¢ per minute rate ended up costing more than another card costing 7.1¢ per minute. The reason was that the lower priced card had a longer billing increment and two additional fees: a 15% service fee and a 49¢ connection fee.

8. Buy cards online - not in retail stores:

Calling cards are available in an increasingly wide range of places. The main options are to buy through an online salesperson or to buy at a retail store.

Four main reasons:

Easier to compare calling card prices and features

Easier to identify and compare vendors online

Easier to verify vendor credentials and reputation for online vendors

Easier to set-up and manage features like PIN-less dialing and speed dial

While there are plenty of perfectly good cards sold at retail, it seems that most of the notable phone card scams have involved store-bought cards from no-name brands. The biggest problem is that the packaging of cards in retail stores makes it hard for companies to fully disclose fees - even if they truly wanted to.

This can’t be said that all online vendors are good or all retail cards are bad, just that online shops are a better gamble overall for buying quality cards.

If you buy cards at retail shops, we advise you pay extra attention to the brand. Buy cards either from well known carriers or from card vendors you already know and trust.

9. Watch for hidden fees

In the calling cards industry hidden fees are a very big problem.. That’s because not all card vendor fully or clearly disclose information on all applicable rates and fees.

As you go for a card, carefully see which rates and fees apply. If they are not showing any fee, doesn’t mean you aren’t going to be charged for it - it may be declared in the fine print somewhere. For example, it is not uncommon for fees to be disclosed in the details of long contracts or terms of service which many people wouldn’t even think to read.

In our opinion, a very good indicator of a calling card vendor’s honestly is how clearly and prominently they display applicable rates and fees. Ideally, you want to buy from a vendor that provides an organized and complete listing of all possible fees - including ones they may not even charge for.

10. Buy from high regarded companies

Unfortunately, there are a lot of calling card salesperson out there, so your first priority is finding a highly regarded company to buy your calling cards from.

Finding good salesperson is not hard - if you know what to look for. Once you’ve found a good salesperson or two, then you can hub on choosing the right card.

Below are more than a few factors you should consider in choosing a reliable, reputable calling card vendor.

Provides advanced features (like PIN-less dialing Serves the country you are calling

No complaints found via Google search

Offers competitive rates

Has full disclosure of rates and fees

Offers online account management

Has 24/7 live customer support

<![endif]-->Most school administration regards cell phone use as disturbing and entertain, and have implemented policies that prohibit using them on school campus. Cell phones are a disturbance in school. Student can use text message for cheating in tests. Students are not able to give full attention to the lesson. If a student cell phone rings in class, it totally disrupts the class for a considerable period of time. Many cell phones are also camera phones. Camera phones present a of invasion of privacy in the schools. One of the best ways we can protect the privacy of every student is to ban cell phones from school during the school day.

Students need to be paying attention on classroom instruction without the distractions of cell phones. While cell phones are very convenient and a common part of everyday life, cell phones, for the most part, are a entertainment everywhere. Have you ever been on a bus or plane and somebody is carrying on a loud personal conversation? At a school, the distraction may be even greater than in a public place. For many teachers one of the biggest concerns about including cell phones in schools is that they will be used improperly. It is very necessary to ban the use of cell phone in school to make a healthy and suitable atmosphere.

Students do not need cell phones during school hours. Many schools now providing telephone in the classroom also as if there is any emergency students can use it. I don’t really understand why some parents are so adamant about being able to contact their kids at school at a moment’s notice. Teachers have a difficult job as it is. They don’t need to be dealing with kids having cell phones going off, secretly messaging each other, going on the Internet, and taking photos and video not to mention the possibilities for cheating.

Students will message each other all the time during class, and there are times when the teachers won’t even notice! Are we now slaves to our technology? I still remember the student will be found in his/her respective classroom. If the student needs to call home they only need to go to the main office or guidance to contact a parent or guardian. Most calls home are not for emergencies, they are for simple communication that does not need to be done during school. It must have been a miracle that I made it through that time without the need of a cell phone. The majority of the calls, if not all, will be used in idle chatter. Their current uses are for distraction, social interaction, and lewd photography. And let’s not ignore the parents who would call students during class to talk about non-emergency issues. If it is truly an emergency call the school main number and have the child brought to the office. There should be no cell phones in the schools.

There is not any need of cell phone in the school. While cell phones are an ease, however they don’t belong in the school with our students. Students will use them in the class apart from the rules. It will be a disturbing convenience benefiting only the students to talk to anyone. If there is a true emergency the parent only needs to call the school and the cell phones in the school will be a total disruption, they will be a good cheating device.

There is no difference between looking through your phone and reading a note passed in class. School is for learning. Students will take it for granted and answer calls during the class. It leaves no hope for the classroom teacher. Whether the phone is on vibrate or not, it still makes no difference because the youngster will be continuously looking at the phone in expectation of a call or a text message. Text messaging turned out to be as popular as e-mail and is universal in many students’ hands, and can caused total disturbance in the classroom.

Distractions such as cell phones don’t belong in school. There is no need for cell phones in the schools, just as there was no need for them in the past. In the case of a emergency, schools have in place systems that protect the children and notify the parents. It is the parents who are permitted them a cell phone. As a result they will always be available at a moment notice. Cell phones in school are an unnecessary disturbance that take time away from teachers and can be a resource in cheating. Text messaging is an epidemic. I’m sorry to tell you this, but if you think students will not be texting each other while a teacher is teaching, you’re totally wrong. Whether parents feel it is necessary to have cell phones in the schools or not, it is still a disturbance to their children’s education. It is a harm to our children to allow cell phones during in the schools. Cell phones have become a gigantic problem. Kids text during class, leading to cheating, or coordination of other “bad” activities.
